The 1st XI took a break from league and cup action this weekend with a number of players representing Ulster University at the Irish Inter-varsity Tournament in Dublin. All other Mossley sides kicked off their respective league campaigns following the completion of the League Cup group stages last weekend. The 2nd XI topped their group in the Junior 2 League Cup and progress to the semi-final stages. In the Junior 3 League Cup the 3rd XI topped Group B and 4th XI finished second in Group A, with both progressing to the semi-final stages where they could face each other in an all Mossley tie.
At the weekend the 2nd XI took on North Down 3rd XI in Comber and notched up a 5-1 win with goals from Colin McLean (2), Rory Brown, Rory Laverty and Simon Todd. It was a strong performance by the side who enjoyed the better share of possession and created a number of chances, for his efforts in midfield Rhys Wilson earned himself Man of the Match.
The 3rd XI hosted Bangor 3rd XI at The Glade and found themselves trailing when a deflected shot wrong footed Matthew Dunlop in the Mossley goal. Mossley soon replied when a broken down penalty corner fell to John Alcorn who fired it goal-bound and Jordan McCrea got the final touch to deflect past the keeper. Good work by David Murray then setup Captain Mark Lee who fired in to give Mossley a 2-1 half time lead. Bangor pulled one back in the second half with the match finishing 2-2.
On the road to Civil Service the 4th XI picked up maximum points with a 3-1 win courtesy of a Joe Wray brace and Robert Tyrrell adding one. The 5th XI took on Belfast Harlequins at home and won 1-0 with Joshua Kerr picking up the goal and Andrew Kane's performance earning him Man of the Match.
