Closer than the scoreline makes out.

After a slow start from Mossley Hill, it turned into a tight game.

This Saturday Mossley Hill host Old Bedians on what turned out to be a warm October afternoon. The game was always going to be a tough task with Mossley suffering multiple injuries in recent weeks and also not having skipper DAVID GUEST available as he was worried about his new tattoo getting damaged. The first few minutes set the tone for the half when the visitors went over the line for their first try . Mossley had fallen into their usually bad habit of starting the game slow and cold allowing the opposition to take full advantage . Within fifteen minutes of the first half the home team had conceded two tries with one being converted . Mossley hill needed someone to take the game to Bedians and it was PHIL COCKBURN , Peter Norbury and Adam Rooney that did this with their tackling stopping anything that came their way . In attack PAT POWNEY led the charge being the very impressive primary ball carrier all game and ADAM WRAY who although playing out of position broke the gain line at every opportunity along with James Sherrard . Another try from the away side left the score 19-0 . Not all was quite lost however when some quick hands saw Lewis Wrightson touch down in the corner. Before the end of the half both teams managed to bag another try each Matt Elt running as well as ever and showing a dangerous turn of pace scored for the home side leaving the half time score 24-10.

After taking some well earned stick on the sideline captain DAVID GUEST found himself lacing up his boots and playing the second half on the wing. The game kicked off and within minutes James Sherrard displayed some fantastic quick hands to put the newly elected winger DAVID GUEST in for his first try of the afternoon which he then converted. Unfortunately Mossley suffered a lack of concentration at times and allowed the opposition to run in two more tries after some sloppy tackling. However Mossley didn't give up and winger DAVID GUEST intercepted a pass and ran in his second try and again made the conversion kick to make the score 38-24 . Similar to the last try however the visitors returned fire with two more of their own making the score 52-24. Mossley were happy to have their hard running centre John Whitaker back in the team and he showed exactly why he is so valuable by smashing through the visitors to score a well earned try. Mossley again fought back and got the ball to DAVID GUEST again on the wing who beat the opposition winger and full back to score his third try of the day and converted the kick making it 52-36. Unfortunately Mossley had clearly worked so hard to get back in the game fatigue saw more mistakes creep in and Bedians ran in a further two tries making the final score 62-36. The score maybe didn't reflect the difference in ability between the two teams or effort put it but a good win for bedians non the less who are the first team to take any points away from Mossley Hill this season at home . Bedians nominated John Whitaker as man of the match .
