The first game back after the Christmas break ended in an easy win to Mould FC. Pitched against Gas in a seeding game for the new season, they rarely had to get out of first gear to secure the victory.

The game began with Mould pushing forward confidently and it was them who created the better openings. On each occasion the chances were spurned where some quality finishing would have sown the game up in the first quarter.

In comparison Gas seemed content to try their luck from distance, but appeared to have asked Santa for some brand new pairs of spoon-boots. Time and again a speculative shot crashed against the fence behing the Master's onion bag.

Inevitably Mould opened the scoring after fifteen minutes, when some neat interplay released DUNKLEY on the edge of the area and he placed the ball past the Gas keeper.

The next twenty minutes turned into a scrappy affair with Mould spurning multiple chances. In particular a fine run from Machell opened up the Gas defence, but he chose to pass to SODJE when surely he would have scored if he had elected to shoot.

As the game appeared to be petering out, Mould decided to make an effort, and a wicked dipping shot from KNIGHT found the top right-hand corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Shortly after Mould went three up as Knight weaved past four Gas defenders and passed square to LEESE - who stopped his explicit cursing and drove the ball home.

And then two minutes later it was KNOWLES turn as some more incisive passing gave him a clear shooting opportunity, and the current golden boot holder drove it home.

With the game effectively over, Mould began the showboating, and they were punished in injury time as a Gas attacker drove the ball between Machell's legs and past the Master to make it 4-1.

However, it was too little too late, and Mould kept up their 100% record against Gas.
