The toss was won by Warwick University and they elected to bat.
Stuart opened the bowling for Napton. His first ball sent the visiting teams opener back to the pavilion with a furtive glance back at his crooked woodwork. Stuart completed the over to record a wicket maiden.
Matt then took the cherry to start a magnificent spell of 4 maidens on the trot.
Captain Chris gave his strike bowlers short spells which brought Mike on early and he almost emulated Matt with 4 overs for just 3 runs.
Napton's tight bowling was complimented with some outstanding and committed fielding which is fast becoming one of the foremost aspects of Napton's game. It resulted in a sharp run-out executed by Sam and Wicket keeper Graham. Sam also caught a fine catch off his own bowling and the visitors were on 53-3 after 20 overs.
Unfortunately, Napton were not so aggressive with Warwick Uni's middle order and the next 10 overs resulted in exactly the same number of runs that the first 20 had produced. The last quarter also saw Napton not being able to keep the visitors on the same tight rein as in the first half; thereby resulting in a score for Warwick Uni of 155-8.
Chris and Mike set off positively to make in-roads into the target, until a confident appeal for a stumping persuaded the umpire, standing 20 yards away at square-leg, that Chris had lifted his heel a fraction.
Joe added 22 runs before his now default dismissal of 'caught'.
Callum took to the crease and continued with his development as a front-line player for Napton.
After 20 overs Napton were ahead of their target with 65-3
The next 10 overs saw the run rate fall and with 10 to go Napton were on the back foot.
A spirited and exciting session with Matt and Stuart creating a useful partnership but it was not enough to overtake the visitors total and Napton finished on 147-8.
Warwick Uni won by 8 runs.
