On the same day that England’s cricketers won the Twenty/20 world cup Napton staged their own version. This was a result of Boddington ‘crying-off’ from our scheduled match, leaving eleven Napton players champing at the bit for a game.
Captain Chris Gooderham devised a set of rules that awarded points for a variety of achievements throughout the match.
Teams were given extra runs for reaching a century. Batsmen could earn more points for their team for reaching certain targets and bowlers were awarded points for multiple wickets. It resulted in the team with the least runs in their innings actually winning by 5 runs when their bowling awards were added at the end of the game.
Batsmen of note were Chris Gooderham, Rob Pelter and Ben Kluth.
Bowlers Kerrick Hatfield 4-13 and Chris Gooderham 2-22 earned valuable points for their team.
Guy Tuck kept wicket for both teams. Jane was hard to comment that all that bending would prepare him well for what she has planned for him !!!
With a bit of fine-tuning and player education of the rules this could be an annual fun game for Napton.
