Badby won the toss and elected to bat.
On completion of their 40 overs Badby scored 215-3.
S. Alsop 3-13.
After tea Napton took to the crease.
Napton made a slow start and lost early wickets completing the 10th over at 14-2.
In the 26th over Napton were in a difficult situation at 99-6.
Batsman No. 8, Guy Tuck, joined Stuart Alsop at the wicket. 14 overs remained with 8.3 an over required. An early trip to the local hostelry looked a safe bet.
What happened then will remain in Napton CC’s folklore for evermore.
Stuart and Guy completed an undefeated partnership of 119. Stuart 95 not out and Guy 45 not out.
The Napton team and supporters present were superbly entertained.
After the 31st over Napton reached 150. With 9 overs to go the over rate had come down, but 7.3 an over was still required.
Sylph-like and gazelle-like Guy is not---- but Stuart treated him as if he was !!! He pushed him for singles often being nearly at Guy’s end before the latter had started out. On numerous occasions Guy just managed to get into his ground. One occasion particularly amused as Guy ambled down the wicket inspecting his bat.
However, at 45 not out Guy was an equal part of the partnership. His 45 runs included 5 boundaries, one of them a six. He also hit a three to take Napton to 218 and victory.
Stuart—12 fours and one six.
