On a relatively cold and cloudy afternoon Napton won the toss and decided to spend the first session in the field.
Opening bowlers Mike and Stuart kept the visitors pinned down and playing defensive cricket. After 10 overs, although with all wickets intact, Ashorne only had 26 runs in the book.
Matt held up his corner well at 'second string' and saw off 3 of the opposition.
Mike was used in three spells and gave 4 batsmen their 'marching orders'.
A couple of well taken catches by JP off little brothers bowling, 2 run-outs and generally energetic fielding by Napton led to the visitors tenth wicket falling in the 39th over for 148.
Rory continues to shine in the field and can be relied on to defend any area of the ground he is despatched to.
Mike Eadon 7.4 overs 2 Maidens 4-24
Matt Sharples 8 overs 3 Maidens 3-13
Sam Sensecall 6 overs 1-26
After tea Napton could be excused for thinking that 149 was 'gettable' at 3.725 per over.
However, only17 runs off the first 10 over left 132 to score in the remaining 30; nearly 4.5 per over.
This was still on the cards with Mike going well with George, Graham and Callum supporting.
When Sam joined Mike the smart money could have been confidently put on Napton; but Mike's run-out changed the odds.
Napton were all out in the 36th over for 122.
A good competitive performance by Napton that deserved a different result.
