This match was a late arrangement to fill a 'TBA' in Napton's fixture list.
It was not the usual run-of-the-mill game to report on.
There was a threatened total batting collapse by the home team with only three players achieving double figures. This was then mirrored by LT&MCC.
The game was played out in a weather cocktail of warm sunshine through to a 'rain stopped play' interlude; to then carry on for a cold, wet and miserable final hour to an eventual conclusion.
The visitors won the toss and put Napton into bat.
The fourth ball of the first over was met with a text book forward defensive that put just enough spin on the ball for it to circumnavigate the batsman's feet, eventually dislodging a bit of woodwork. The batsman was so mesmerised by the cherry's journey around his boots that he neglected to kick it away.
In the second over the remaining home team opening batter followed a ball wide down leg to edge it into the 'keepers gloves. Nine balls and Napton two down.
Mike and Joe steadied the ship and Joe had recorded his half-century by the fourteenth over.
He departed soon after and Mike, whilst scoring steadily, lost four low-scoring partners.
He found some support from Stuart and he was eventually caught on a well-earned 93.
Miraculously, and what had not seemed possible earlier, Napton completed their allocated forty overs. They finished on 175-9. A very credible achievement in the circumstances and a total that gave some chance of being defended.
Mike Eadon 93 runs 17 boundaries inc. 1 six
Joe Alsop 50 runs 9 boundaries inc. 4 sixes
Stuart Alsop 15 runs 2 boundaries
By the smell coming from the pavilion Pam was serving up something tasty for our tea, and it did not disappoint. We were treated to hot sausage batches with fried onions to accompany a tasty cricket tea.
Napton took to the field in ever-deteriorating conditions that was going to result in a couple of uncomfortable hours for them.
However, they set about their task positively and were rewarded by the fielders taking all their catching chances --- six in all. Two by Tom, a caught-behind by Tim, caught and bowled by Mike and two slick slip catches by Chris.
Chris is back 'on song' with his bowling with half of his eight overs being maidens.
Stuart and Mike scooped up a hatfull of wickets between them.
Sam was as cheap as he has ever been, bowling-wise that is !! His first three overs were maidens, one a wicket-taker.
Callum, although not taking a wicket, limited the visitors to an average of three an over off his bowling. In limited-over cricket this is important.
Despite the aforementioned rain interruption Napton dismissed the visitors after 34 overs on 102-10.
Wicket-takers:
Stuart Alsop 8 overs 4-20
Mike Eadon 7 overs 3-28
Sam Sensecall 4 overs 3 maidens 1-3
Rob Pelter 2 overs 1-15
Chris Gooderham 8 overs 4 maidens 1-19
The post-match hot buffet served up by Barry at the Victory Club was more than adequate compensation for the inclement weather conditions suffered on the pitch.
