For a multitude of reasons Sam found himself short of numbers for this trip to Hunningham. To the rescue came Louis and Dan from Warwick School and Nick from Grandborough. Numbers were also swelled by three Pelters on the pitch and a further three watching!
Sam lost the toss and was asked to have a bowl. A good start from Mike as Hunningham’s number two batsman played the ball onto his stumps in the first over and Sam had the other opener caught brilliantly by James for a wicket maiden in the fourth. Sam and Mike’s opening spell had plenty of dots, but was punctuated by occasional fours, particularly off the edge of Hunningham’s number three bat, as he flashed hard at anything outside his off stump. Louis then joined the attack, taking a good caught and bowled in the 13th over.
Hunningham had amassed a little over a hundred at a little over half way when Sam asked Pelter senior to twirl his arm. Rob’s second over removed Hunningham’s number five, and his third over did for numbers six and seven, with James taking another good catch on the boundary. James then got his chance to bowl with Rob able to return the favour to James with a catch, and then another catch off Mike’s return to the attack. To complete the Pelter-fest James bowled Hunningham’s number ten, before a run out left Hunningham on 182 in the 36th over, leaving their number three batter not out in his nineties.
Wicket takers:
Rob Pelter 6 overs 3-33
James Pelter 6 overs 2-13
Mike Eadon 6 overs 1 maiden 2-30
Louis Clarke 8 overs 1 maiden 1-32
Sam Sensecall 8 overs 1 maiden 1-44
After tea Napton felt 183 to be a gettable total on a pitch that had played well. Dan and Ed opened the innings and quickly amassed 19 before Ed was bowled at the start of only the 3rd over. Nick then joined Dan and the two set about the bowlers, especially Nick who appeared to have another appointment to get to, bringing up his 50 off only 28 balls with a(nother) monstrous six.
Dan too regularly found the boundary, hitting 41 before being bowled in the 12th over, and Nick was eventually caught in the 15th. By then Tom had arrived at the crease and was keeping the scoreboard ticking along nicely with regular boundaries and a regular supply of Pelters. George found the boundary and it was James (you can’t keep the Pelters out of this one!) who hit the winning four in the 23rd over. A comprehensive win for Napton.
