Honours Even at Rain Soaked Bught
By David Ross
NDFC drew 2 - 2 with Carrbridge FC in today's friendly in Inverness.
The drive up to Inverness today saw apocalyptic conditions - heavy rain, wind and snow so the prospects of this game going ahead were not looking good.
The conditions eased as we approached the Bught, a quick swatch of the park found no big puddles so we were good to go!
Carrbridge settled quickly and looked very comfortable in possession as Nellie's struggled to get to grips with the conditions underfoot, everything seemed rushed.
The opening stages didn't see too many clear cut chances, though carrbridge did have an effort from a corner kick strike the crossbar and bounce down but it was cleared to safety before crossing the line.
NDFC did eventually start to play, a neat one touch passing move between Paul Sangwin, Stephen McGhie and Duncan Morris didn't lead to a goal scoring opportunity but it certainly seemed to boost confidence and belief.
As Nellies came more into the game Carrbridge struck the opener from a swift counter attack. The left winger, who was a constant threat, cut into the box and his blocked effort fell nicely to the supporting midfielder and he tucked the ball into the bottom corner. 1-0 after 30 mins.
NDFC drew level on the stroke of half time. A long ball into the box was contested by Paul Sangwin and the towering centre half and the ball dropped at the feet of Robert McCormack 8 yards out and he made no mistake slotting past the keeper.
That led to a few heated moments and said centre half almost removed Duncan Morris' leg form the knee down with a brutal challenge as the whistle blew for half time.
NDFC upped their game considerably second half and looked more like themselves, retaining possession far better than in the first half.
A well struck pass forward from Steven Mcgaw from the right back area released Duncan Morris who was playing on the shoulder of the last defender and morris took a couple of touches before placing the ball into the bottom corner past the on rushing keeper, a good finish to make it
2-1 after 70 mins.
Carrbridge pressed for a leveller and Garry Macleod pulled off a couple of fine saves before being eventually beaten in the last minute, a corner swung into the box was helped on and finished from close range to even up the score.
Man of the Match - Some very good performances from the Carrbridge boys, the left winger was always dangerous, the tall centre mid had a good game a forward looked after the ball and linked play well for the whole match.
On the NDFC side Steven Mcgaw takes man of the match this week. Solid performance at both full back positions, put in some great challenges and always looked confident on the ball.
The entire back 4 and Garry Macleod stood up to some real pressure today, it was a real dogged performance from all involved and a horrible surface, well done lads.
Moment of the Match - Steven Alexander's face as the 6 foot plus centre mid he was up against all game was subbed and they brought on someone even bigger, priceless!
Special mention for today's referee, thought he was outstanding!!
