Nelson 0-6 Litherland REMYCA

Nelson were well and truly beaten today, going down 6-0 to 3rd placed Litherland Remyca on a dismal afternoon for the Admirals. Despite having pretty much a full squad to choose from, the Blues were undone by a good side on a difficult pitch after the Little Wembley playing surface only just passed a pitch inspection with heavy rain overnight making for a game set up to be decided by who makes the least mistakes in defence.

Unfortunately for the Nelson faithful, the hosts were undone by a number of early blunders at the back that saw Litherland race into a 2-0 lead. Stephen Ferrigan opened the score after 8 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball near the halfway line before taking the ball all the way into the box and beating Hardy in the Nelson goal from close range. Joel Douglas was next to score, Remyca again punishing sloppy defending that saw Douglas able to bear down on Hardy before dribbling the ball around the shot stopper and placing the ball in the empty net.

The Blues had started in the worst possible fashion however they should have gained a foothold in the game when Alberto Seidi capitalised on a Dave Patrick flick on to find himself 1 v1 with the Visitors Keeper but the Portuguese winger wasted his chance hitting his shot straight at the Goalkeeper. Minutes later however the pacy Seidi was once again in behind but this time was upended in the box to give the Blues a penalty. Patrick stepped up, having scored 4 in his last 4 games including two penalties, but the big Number 9 fired his spotkick wide of the top corner,a moment that signalled it was not to be the Admirals day.

Half Time - Nelson 0-2 Litherland Remyca

Having come into the game as huge underdogs, given the league positions of the both sides, Nelson perhaps could have done without playing such a good side on such a difficult surface and from the first kick in the 2nd half they struggled to contain an impressive Remyca front line. Colin McDonald bullied the Blues back line time and again and the burly striker made it 3-0 to put the game to bed and confine the Admirals to another certain defeat. While Nelson worked hard to get some pride back with some good football at times, they couldn't handle McDonald and Douglas and Nelson were punished on the break twice in succession by McDonald to secure his hattrick.

Despite the heavy score line the Admirals did show some fighting spirit to continue to try to attack and create opportunities but a number of blocks and a golden chance for Anthony McGloughlin fired wide from close range, they couldn't get a goal for Blues supporters who's day was topped off by Douglas grabbing his second and Litherland sixth, a thumping for the Admirals who's season is not likely to be defined by results against the teams at the top but will need to pick up points quickly as they sit at the foot of the table.

Full Time - Nelson 0-6 Litherland Remyca

"We can't have any complaints today," said Blues boss Adam Keizer after the game. "We got what we deserved but the lads have to get that out of their system quickly because it won't be games against the top sides in this league like Litherland that will determine our season, it's the results against the other teams in the bottom half and outside the playoffs where we need to make sure we are picking up enough points. Today was always going to be a tough ask given Litherland have won 11 games out of their first 13 in the league, but we have to cut out the mistakes at the back and start taking our chances up front. We've scored the least amount of goals in the league so it's clear the area we need to improve, however we've also conceded six today and four in each of the two league games before today so until we start making better decisions in both boxes we will continue to struggle. I've got faith in this group of players to respond in the right manner away at Blackpool next Saturday but equally if we have to bring other players in to the squad get us out of trouble then we will make those decisions over the next week as we have to start picking up points."

The Blues were without a single point in five league games and only 1 goal scored when Keizer, club Chief Executive, took over first team duties temporarily after Manager Alex Norwood left the club and Paul Fildes spell in charge was cut short after only 3 games. Nelson have since taken 5 points from 8 league games, however the Admirals Chief says the Blues need to pick up points quickly before any decision is made regarding the first team management.

"We want to get a few more points on the board, get the team away from the bottom and I think then the Chairman and I will sit down and make a decision as to whether we want to appoint a first team Manager so the quicker we do that the better. I think we've got a squad that's good enough to pick up points in this league, we were well and truly beaten today by a top side for this league and I know how much the lads are hurting, but there's enough character to bounce back and get a result next Saturday at AFCBlackpool."
