After an impressive turn around last time in the FA Vase against Carlisle, Nelson fall short and crash out in the second qualifying round.

In what will be deemed as a disappointing afternoon for The Admirals, Nelson were unable to progress any further in the Buildbase FA Vase. Nelson saw themselves 2-0 down at half time and went on to concede another two in the second half with Daniel Fagan getting The Blues a late consolation.

The first goal of the game came very early in the game, when Ashington's number seven, Max Cowburn opened the scoring just before the tenth-minute mark. Nelson didn't look like they could get going until Jack Foster created a great chance, however, his effort could only earn the home side a corner.

Moments later Nelson conceded again, this time Jack Butler with a tidy finish, he saw his shot clip in off the far post. But, The Admirals weren't down and out just yet, youngster Kit Lloyd took a shot from distance that looked like it was heading into the top corner, however, Ashington's keeper pulled off a fantastic save and clawed it out for another corner.

Not long before half time, Nelson had another chance, once again Jack Foster was the man pulling the strings, his deflected effort was cleared off the line. Nelson had been in a similar situation to this in the last round where they were 3-1 down at half-time to Carlisle City. In that game, the lads managed to turn the game on its head and win 5-3.

But that wasn't to be the case, Daniel Cranston made it 3-0 just before the hour mark, Andy Harrison's men couldn't get a foothold in the game. Seven minutes after his first goal, Cranston got his second and put the away side 4-0 up, Ashington's initial shot was saved by Jack Lawrence, but the rebound fell to the attacker once again and he had an easy tap in.

A few more chances passed for both teams with Lawrence pulling off a couple of saves for Nelson. And it was The Admirals who got the next goal when Daniel Fagan headed the ball into the back of the net from a corner.

It proved to be too little, too late for Nelson. This defeat means that Nelson are out of the Buildbase FA Vase, whereas Ashington will face Charnock Richard F.C in the next round.

Nelson's match sponsor on the day, United Fuels gave club captain, Sam Dickinson man of the match.

Andy Harrison said: "As a team, we weren't good enough for 65 to 70 minutes of the game.

"But we've got another opportunity on Wednesday to put that right."

There aren't too many positives for Harrison and his coaching team to take away from that game, however, they face Garstang at Victoria Park on Wednesday evening and they'll be hoping to bounce back with a win.
