Newbury Forest back Prostate Cancer UK and Non-League Day as they team up for sixth life-saving campaign.

For a sixth successive season, Prostate Cancer UK will be the official charity partner of Non-League Day - and Newbury Forest have signed up to lend their support.

The annual event, which in 2019 celebrates its tenth year, takes place on Saturday, October 12th and will see hundreds of football clubs from across the non-league pyramid encouraged to raise awareness and money for the leading men’s health charity.

We hope fans will join us for the day which will involve the sale of wrist bands and pin badges as well as a collection.

Prostate Cancer UK have raised over £20,000 over the last two Non-League Days as more than 50 clubs joined the fight against the deadliest opponent of all - and this year’s event is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, with sides from across the Non-League pyramid joining forces in another jam-packed day of activity.

James Doe, founder of Non-League Day, said: “Prostate Cancer UK’s work across football goes from strength to strength but the statistics about the disease are still chilling. One man dies every 45 minutes so more than ever we need to raise awareness and funds to hit back.

“Reaching supporters, players and officials at all levels of our national game is massively important to changing this, and we hope that non-league clubs and their supporters will also adopt Prostate Cancer UK as a charity for the day and host themed events or fundraising activities.”

In addition, the Vanarama National League has once again changed its name in the opening half of the season - all for a great cause – Prostate Cancer UK. For a second successive season, the fifth and sixth tiers of the English game, which include clubs like Notts County, Barnet and Wrexham, will be known as the MANarama National League until 9th November.

Jon Eserin, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “The power of football consistently helps us reach out to men and their friends and families, and we are very grateful for Newbury Forest’s support on Non-League Day as we continue to raise money and awareness throughout the grassroots game in innovative ways.

“We’re delighted once again that non-league fans will join the fight against prostate cancer and raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK. The money raised by clubs and their fantastic fans will fund ground-breaking research to help fight the disease. That will help us provide dedicated support and information to men and their families affected by this disease. We thank everyone involved for joining the fight.”

Many people are unaware that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It’s a huge issue that cannot be ignored. One man will die from prostate cancer every 45 minutes in the UK. That’s over 11,500 men a year. Based on current trends, if we ignore prostate cancer and do nothing, this number will rise to over 14,500 men a year by 2026.
