Match report

By Tony Jacobs

Newbury finally took their cup form into the league when they travelled to Braintree on Saturday for this Thurlow Nunn fixture.

The match started evenly with both sides playing good football and trying to gain the initiative. It was Forest who made the breakthrough on nineteen minutes when Kieren Huddart latched on to a loose ball to hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area to become Newbury's youngest ever First Team goal scorer at 16 years and 4 months, sending the visitors in at half time leading 0-1.

Forest started the second period on the front foot, passing the ball quickly and accurately and in the fifty first minute they doubled their lead when after a fine run, Kingdom Dawson unselfishly set up Jason Reynolds-Blanche for a tap in.

Then on seventy-one minutes substitute Scott Emmons was bought down in the box. From the spot kick Reynolds-Blanche sent the home keeper the wrong way to make it 0-3. However, the best was still to come when on seventy-eight minutes Enoch Freeman turned the Braintree defence inside out before unleashing a great drive to record Newbury's biggest win of the season so far.
