Today we played our first game of the season in the Echo League on a glorious sunny morning. Our game today was away to Chigwell Spitfires. I’d been told they were a good side and we had a hard game in front of us. At the moment we only have 11 in the squad and this meant a couple of the boys had to play in positions unfamiliar to them. Both teams started very well with Chigwell having a couple of chances but our defence was solid. It was end to end stuff with both teams playing some great football. There was a clash of heads early on as Robert and one of their players bravely fought for the ball. After about 20 minutes Chigwell opened the scoring to make it 1-0. We didn’t lose our heads and went close ourselves with Liam unselfishly laying the ball off to Ashley who was unfortunate not to score. We kept the pressure on with Liam taking a great shot which their goalie could only parry out straight into the path of Ashley who levelled the score at 1-1. The boys were running their hearts out and half time came just as they were tiring. Both teams came out just as strong in the second half but we were the better team having more of the play and could have easily got another two. We continued the pressure and were soon rewarded with another goal from Ashley to make it 2-1. Chigwell weren’t finished though and it wasn’t long before they levelled the score at 2-2 with a lovely chip. The boys kept going and there were more goals to come. We kept the pressure on and were soon awarded a free kick on the left. Clay delivered a great ball into the box which Ashley controlled well before burying in the back of the net. There wasn’t long left and the game got even more exciting with Chigwell looking for an equaliser. Rob was having a blinder today and made a great defensive header with about a minute left. This wasn’t the end though with Chigwell getting a last minute equaliser to make the final score 3-3. All of the boys gave 110% today. Krishan had a fantastic debut on the left wing (even though he prefers to be in goal!). Rishi made some fantastic saves and our defensive unit of Krish, Clay, Ish and Sen were superb. Robert and Rohan were awesome in midfield, with Ashley, Liam and Rio working brilliantly together up front. It was a great game and the boys can hold their heads up high! YOU ARE MY FOREST, MY ONLY FOREST. YOU MAKE ME HAPPY WHEN SKIES ARE GREY, YOU’LL NEVER KNOW JUST HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU, SO DON’T EVER TAKE MY FOREST AWAY
