Its Christmas!!

The last game of 2014 for the thirds was a short trip to Stafford vets. As a reward for the seasons hard work so far a top of the range transit van with windows (mini bus) was hired to ferry the thirds to Stafford. On arrival at the club an early xmas present was awaiting your scribe in the form of Fiji Ben who was due to be playing for the seconds but had set his alarm to Fiji time and was late. A quick calculation by the team mathematician Lee Williams revealed if he moved the slab of ale to one side we indeed had room for Ben. A fairly early arrival for the thirds at Stafford resulted in a warm up being held an almost unheard of event in the thirds, but give time for the smokers in the team to have an extra pre match ciggy. Stafford Vets who recently turned up at Castle with 8 players appeared to have had a recruitment drive and had 20 players to choose from. The thirds were fielding some new faces notably the worlds largest outside centre Teagles. The first half was played with the wind and the hill in Castle favour and with Andy Howell announcing he wasn't going to be kicking alot.. he began to kick alot. One noticeable absent player was Judda. Now we in the thirds look forward to our ringside seats as Judda sets about the Queensbury rules. But have no fear a new contender was found in Steve Moore. When an angry prop ran at him to demonstrate his anger Steve merely stretched out a left paw and landed a corker on said props conk. The prop did the maths and retreated from whence he came. The thirds although never really under the cosh were in for hard fought game but two first half tries one scored by Ben was after flowing move by the backs kept the noses in front. Fresh legs were introduced throughout the game with Colts Kav Cali and Marcus joining in. Kav set about the opposition forwards with gusto tying their back rows up on a number of occasions. in the second half Ben broke free and headed for the try line. At this point he was obviously thinking of the upcoming Strictly come Dancing final so attempted a pirouette and promptly fell over his own feet. Luckily Mike Huss was on hand to score the try. Teagles by this point had fully embraced the world of the backs and was swapping moisturiser tips with his fellow backs. But then disaster he broke a nail and had to leave the field to standing ovation (his dad was watching) Then at this time of good cheer a moment of pure cruelty was displayed. Rich Sale broke the line and headed for the posts followed by yours truly scampering behind like a loyal dog. Rich stopped under the posts turned to me, went to a pass then grounded the ball! cruel cruel man. A try was scored by Stafford in the second half but the thirds kept them at bay to secure a 37-5 win and end the year top of the league.
