Milton Overcome Errors to Win

Milton played host to Sandown & Shanklin a team holding third position in the league and keen to take revenge for their defeat at the their home fixture when Milton beat them on their pitch for the first time in eight years. The team arrived in a impressive double decker bus all the way from Sandown via Southampton which also brought quite a number of supporters. The match was close throughout the first half but Milton gradually took control of the game, as well as overcoming a high penalty count, they finally outscored S&S by 5 tries to 3

From the kick off the game was intense with both side eager to score quickly, Milton immediately went very close to score but S&S gained possession and were quickly into the Milton 22, from a ruck Dalton Thomas gained possession passing to Tom Gould who powered down the wing passing to Christian Brown who made a delicate kick ahead for Callum Wood to touch the ball down Adam Lavis added the extras.

A penalty award to S&S gave them possession in the Milton 22 and another penalty award to S&S was converted. The game just ebb and flowed from one teams 22 area to the other until a penalty award to S&S gave them a line out in the Milton 22 which their forwards used well pushing over for a try.

Milton responded immediately and following a scrum near the S&S22 they were awarded a penalty which Adam Lavis converted. Following the kick off another penalty award to Milton gave them a 5 mtr line out which did not go well but from the following scrum the Milton forwards pushed S&S back gaining possession the ball was passed to Christian Brown who ran past defenders passing to Dan Mallard who drove through the defence to touch down, Adam Lavis converted.

Half Time 17 – 8

S&S assisted by penalty awards were creating pressure on the Milton try line, the Milton defence worked well, Nick McQueen gained possession from a ruck on the try line and ran through the S&S tacklers right up to within 10 mtrs of the S&S try line where he was stopped by the full back a resulting penalty award to Milton was converted by Adam Lavis.

Milton gained a line out in the S&S22, Jude Payne gained possession and so nearly scored, and from a resulting 5 mtr scrum Nick McQueen took the ball from the base of the scrum and drove over to score.

More penalty awards to S&S created pressure in the Milton 22 and from a line out their forwards pushed over for another try. From the kick off Milton gained possession in S&S22 following a 5 mtr scrum Milton were awarded a penalty which Adam Lavis took quickly passing to Sam Bew who ran through the defence to touch down.

S&S responded, penalties giving them possession in the Milton 22 and from a 5 mtr line out their forwards did the business and pushed over for a try. From the kick off Jude Payne athletically ran and jumped catching the kick off ball and headed for the line being stopped just short of the line he was able to pass to Dalton Thomas who made the touch down

Milton's Man of the Match was the captain - Christian Brown for his leadership and all round play in attack and defence
