New Milton played host to US Portsmouth, the earlier kick off time surprised a number of supporters and indeed maybe the team as USP were 10 points ahead after 20 minutes, but Milton got into their stride and maintained their winning ways outscoring USP by 8 tries to 3
US Portsmouth kicked off playing with a brisk wind, a penalty award at a following ruck was converted, and from a Milton scrum on half way the ball was won but lost in a tackle which USP quickly used to make a break running in to score a converted try.
Milton then exerted some control gaining possession in the USP 22 but a penalty gave USP a line out on half way, Milton gained possession from the line out and the forwards move the ball into the USP half Tom Wood breaking away from the maul and running to touch down.
From the kick off Milton managed to create an offside situation USP converted the awarded penalty.
Milton were quickly into the USP 22 and from a scrum the ball was passed well out to Tom Gould who ran in to for the touch down, this quickly followed by Milton winning a scrum on half way Jude Payne making a break passing to Ben Steers who returned the ball to Jude who was running near the touch line and was tackled just short of the line but somehow Jude Payne passed the ball back to Ben Steers to make acrobatic touchdown.
A penalty gave USP a line out on the 10mtr line but Milton tackling gained possession and the ball passed to Chris Conacher who used his pace to run past defenders to touch down.
Half Time 20 – 13
US Portsmouth came out strongly in the second half creating pressure on the Milton line one attempt under the posts was held up, the pressure continued for up to 10 minutes until Milton gained a line out on their 22 the ball passed out to Christian Brown who made a break through backed up by Tom Wood and Joe Eldridge who received the final pass making the touchdown under the posts Dalton Thomas added the extras.
Milton then gained possession from a USP line out on the Milton 10 mtr line Hungil Chung making a break along the touch line passing to Tom Gould and on to Ben Steers to score his brace,
this was quickly followed by Tom Gould scoring his brace from a Milton line out on the USP 5 mtr line.
USP were working hard and created pressure in the Milton 22 again for a steady period, and although Milton cleared their line, from a USP line out in their 22 their backs ran the ball well scoring a converted try.
From the kick off Milton gained possession in the USP 22 Christian Brown weaved in and around the defenders to score a well deserved try.
Zac Smith was made Milton's Man of the Match for his all round play and teamwork.
