So you have decided to take a look at the Newport News Rugby Football Club and see if it is right for you? Here is everything you need to know become a part of our team.
- Read the Introduction to Rugby. There is a lot more information on the web that would be good for you to read, but this is a great introduction.
- Contact us. We will let you know what is going on and if there are any changes to our practice schedule.
- Sign up for our Facebook page. This where the players talk to each other, coordinate rides, and keep up to date.
- Come out to a practice. You will need shorts, cleats, a t-shirt, and a mouthguard.
OK, so you went to a practice and decided this is the sport for you. What next?
- Get CIPPed. It is pronounced "sipped" and is required to play in any games. If you CIPPed in the Fall, it is good for the Spring; membership lasts a whole year.
- Pay dues. Dues are for a single (Fall or Spring) season. If they are a problem then let us know and we can work something out, but you will not be allowed to play in a game without having taken care of this.
- Get gear. You should have, at a minimum, several pair of rugby socks, rugby shorts, cleats, and a mouthguard. Compression underwear is recommended, and some locks like to have a scrum cap. Once you have gear, you should be wearing rugby shorts to each practice. The club sells shorts, socks, warmup jerseys, and polos.
