Newport Pagnell Town manager Darren Lynch on their 2-0 win against Wellingborough Town:
"We welcomed Wellingborough Town to Willen Road today on the back of a great 3-0 away win at Holbeach at last week, we drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture so we knew as it is always that it was going to be a tough game.
We started very slowly and allowed them to get a foothold in the game but in all honesty the first half was a bit of a damp squid, they had a shout for a pen and we had a couple of balls played across the 6 yard box without anyone gambling to tap in at the back post, we should of scored right at the end of the half when a great knock down by Dom Lawless let Michael Lyon break into the box but his effort hit the post and from the rebound we had a shout for a pen 0-0 ht
I asked for a bit more from the lads during the interval and too be fair I got the reaction I asked for.
We were much quicker to first & second balls and started with a higher tempo without really creating much so I brought Tom liversedge on and immediately he made an impact causing a defender to give to jake stronge who’s shot was deflected for a corner, the resulting corner led to our opening goal when Liam smyth’s corner was arguably glanced on by josh winters.
We defended well all afternoon too be fair and after another one of their attacks was broken we caught them on the counterattack and again tom held the ball up well and played a through ball for josh who took it in his stride and slotted between the keepers legs to make it 2, the rest of the half was about game management and although they had another shout for another pen we saw the game out and with it another pleasing 3 points.
We now look forward to another 2 long trips to Sleaford & Pinchbeck but with a lot of confidence!"
