Club History

Newquay Ladies Hockey Club was established in 1965 by founding members;
Wendy Kennedy & Mavis Warman along with Jackie Miller, Jane Rumble & Jill Bishop, following in the footsteps of the earlier formed mens side The Newquay Saints.
Playing early matches with a local scout hut at The Godolphin playing field as a base. Both teams moved to Newquay Sports Centre in the early 1970's and for more than 30 years - Newquay Saints and Newquay Ladies provided good grass roots hockey, fielding up to 3 sides each on a Saturday.

They were also the proud hosts of well supported mixed hockey events of the Jack & Jill Tournament and Mixed Easter Festival with teams travelling to take part from all over the country.

Unfortunately early into 2008 the Saints side disbanded.

The ladies side carried on, becoming 'Newquay Hockey Club'leaving the door open for a mens side to return. Sadly after securing funding and working hard to have an Astro pitch at Tretherras School they have since had to move to play league matches at Penair school. The "Community" pitch was re-surfaced for rugby and football and became not fit for league hockey.

Newquay still train on the pitch, but hope they can return to having a full time base, playing all matches at Newquay in the future.

Today they field 2 ladies teams; The First XI play in the Premier 2B league and a Second XI in Trelawney 1. They also have a thriving junior section who have coached sessions along side the seniors on a Tuesday evening in the hockey season.

In 2015 we celebrated 50 years of Newquay Hockey Club with a reunion at Newquay Sports Centre on Saturday 18th of April.
