Newton Wonder Report - April 2016

Newton St Cyres CC – April report

The sun is starting to shine, the days are getting longer and the grass is growing; it must be the start of another cricket season. After a few winter nets at the University, the Newton St Cyres team is tackling the weeds on the artificial wicket and getting the square ready for another season.

We line up again against teams in Devon League Division D (West) with familiar names like Topsham St James, Exwick and Kenn, but this year are also joined by Yelverton, Ashburton and Shaldon from other leagues, as well as a return to league cricket for South Brent.
It is set to be another challenging league with strong teams but none of which Newton are not capable of beating on the right day. The team are determined to make sure it wins its key games to improve on last year’s league position, but whatever the outcome, to ensure that matches are played in a fun and friendly manner.

As well as league cricket, the Newton team will be part of a small friendly evening league organised by the team at Cheriton Fitzpaine, and this year hope to revive the Quicke’s knockout cup, with the other cricket clubs in the village.

The first friendly match is on April 17th, league matches start on Saturday 7th May and practice sessions will be on Tuesday evenings from May. We really need players, of all standards, so whether you want to play the odd game, or all season please let me know (paulmccutchion@hotmail.com), so that we can get you registered and therefore eligible for league games.
