First visit to South Brent ends in victory.

Newton St Cyres 219-9 beat South Brent 167 all out by 52 runs

Newton St Cyres picked up their second win of the season in their first ever visit to South Brent.
Batting first, Newton scored freely, but also lost wickets along the way, so when Usman Manazir was out for a breezy 35, the innings was in the balance at 56-4. Fortunately for the visitors, a sensible partnership between Chris Collyer (47) and Martin Pearce (55) of 76 meant that the ship was steadied and when Andy Cork (17) then helped Pearce add 58 for the 6th wicket Newton were well on the way to a commanding score. Pearce fell as the team reached 200 but the tail pushed the score on to a challenging 219-9 off the full 45 overs.
In reply, Pearce struck in the first over on his way to 3-24 and South Brent lost wickets at regular intervals to hamper any run chase. With excellent catching and ground fielding, Newton kept the pressure on the home side until Saunter decided to take the attack to the bowlers. His knock was full of unorthodox but effective strokes but he was losing partners at the other end, mostly to Manazir (5-33). A last wicket partnership of 43 with Beaven (15 no) caused a bit of concern but Leighton Dayman took his third slip catch to dismiss Saunter for 74 and seal the victory.
