Newton St Cyres 179-9 beat Buckland Monachorum 105 all out by 74 runs.
Newton picked up their third win of the season when they overcame visitors Buckland by 74 runs.
Batting first, the home team struggled early on a typical Newton up and down batting track and a tight spell from Dan Rogers (2-15). At 32-3 Shenan Grossberg (24) and Tom Sunderland (18) came together to put on a 50 partnership and then extra impetus was added by Martin Pearce (22). However when he was one of three wickets to fall in one over from Simon Hoad (4-24) Newton looked like falling short of a competitive total, but thanks to Leighton Dayman (33 not out) and the large number of extras (59), Newton closed on 179-9.
In reply, opening bowlers Pearce (1-21) and Rob Mann (1-32) both picked up just the single wicket when they deserved more. At this stage Pete Barrett (20) and Paul Edwards (31) had pushed the score on to 60-2, but when both fell to Jack Withers (4-16) in his opening two overs the home side were firmly in the driving seat. After that the only real resistance came from Rogers (13) but when he fell to Andy Cork (2-4) the win was sealed.
