Storm defeated but lessons learnt.

With Chester unable to fulfill the planned fixture the storm coaches set out to find a fixture that would prevent the team going 4 weeks without a game. Thankfully Saddleworth agreed to host the team, setting up what was anticipated as one of storms hardest challenges of the season. Facing a team from the group above and with some personel missing the lads made no mistake they would have a hard task ahead.
The game started with Saddleworth kicking to Newton then showing their defensive ability by restricting the storm team to their own half. From the storm kick up field a strong return and fast play the ball allowed saddleworth to cross for the first converted try. A mistake on the first drive gave saddleworth good field position, which they used, crossing again to take a 12-0 lead. In previous games this would have been the point where the teams heads went down but some words of encouragement from the coaches helped to keep the morale high. Following this the storm lads lifted their games eventually crossing for a try through Morgan Brown, converted by Jamie Sergison. The rest of the half was dominated by some punishing defense from both teams, leaving the halftime score 12-6.
At half time the coaches gave the team some advice on the areas they felt they needed to work on and reminded them that they had more than enough to get the result they wanted.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first half ended with both defences holding their own. A fantastic run from the Saddleworth number 6 broke the storm defence and allowed them to cross for a converted try making the score 18-6. The storm boys knew that if they stood a chance of pulling this game back they needed to score quickly, and that's exactly what they did. The next set of 6 was built on strong running and fast play the balls giving Ethan Marshall the opportunity to score from dummy half, converted by Ethan Goodban. Leaving the score 18-12. It was time for the storm boys to step up in defence and they didnt disappoint with all the team setting about stopping the saddleworth team making meters. With time running out the storm team attacked the opposition line asking lots of questions then forcing the opposition to take the ball over their own deadball line from a kick. With one final set of six the team again began to probe the opposition line, eventually spreading the ball out wide for Ethan Goodban to try and squeeze in the corner. Unfortunately he was tackled in to touch inches short and the final whistle went.
The lads should feel proud of their efforts in what was their best performance of the season so far. The most pleasing part being the teams attitude of never giving up and working hard for each other.
