So, writing this at start of long journey home. But what a great weekend. Where all the kids (and parents) behaved impeccably doing the club proud. As team bonding goes it could not have gone better.
Firstly, Ewan Timms played for Portsmouth to help them as they were short and get himself a game before helping Brad. Good lad spreading the Norbury word
In terms of the comp;
Beat Sheffield and Portsmouth 4-1 each.
Drew with Mellor 3-3
Beat Rochdale 8-3. The highlight being Caleb's brilliant Hulk impression when surrounded by 3 and a ground ball required winning. It had to be heard to be believed
Lost to Stockport 6-1. Unfortunately we also lost Nick with concussion after he took one for the team tackling the man mountain Luke. A captains performance
So on to semis where Brad (and Ewan Timms) played a blinder. Got them back to playing their own game, enjoying the game and concentrating. The stand out performances were Miles setting the tone, Archie getting 4 goals and the whole team playing brilliantly winning 6-3. Did we mention luck saw us draw Stockport again, they were a little miffed
In the final Mellor did us. They were the better team winning 12-4. A match too far.
So in terms of players, I've mentioned Miles, great all round performance by the Terminator.
Louis, all round excellent in both marshalling the defence and the odd attack. Particularly the goal against Mellor in the final and his semi final job on Cameron.
Caleb, the Hulk, such an improved player did really well wherever he played.
Nick put himself in front of everything playing superbly and never being shy to receive the ball.
Jake was again excellent and put an injury behind him to play well in the semi. A check on their danger man as he was about to shoot a stand out.
Alex Timms, half of our 30 goals says it all and that playing as a midi in the main.
Archie is simply a pocket Dynamo up front. Brilliant.
Elliot in his first tournament and it could have been intimidating for him but he was fantastic. Really coming on and developing but mostly I think he now feels part of the team. Which is what it's all about.
No sendings off either which showed how much they are now listening the coaches
Brad did a brilliant job. Coaching them confidently and sensibly.
So in summary a great success and thanks to Dean for being organiser extraordinaire. It wouldn't have happened without him.
Dave, the driver, Chartres. Selflessly driving the bus and stopping for the many pee requests
