The Game Through Harrisons Eyes

Leeds 1st Vs NORBURY 1st

2nd game of the season,

I can only introduce this fixture by stating that I love Leeds, the city that is!! The team I have my reservations about.

A 11:30 meet at the train station to be in Leeds for 13:00 kitted up, I and Abdullah would be going straight there from our under 14s game which we won 6-2 and 5-0 in 2 half games against Mellor and Timperley respectively.

13:30 my convoy had just got off the M62 thanks to a Leeds united home game and a lack of planning we were running late, with 10 minutes to go we arrived to what I can only described as pitch even Norbury would snub.

We were missing a few players from last week in Peter Clyne, Scott Wilson, Jay Bramhall and Phill Hall. This made way for Mojo (Joe Morgan),

1st Quarter
Leeds 0 – 5 Norbury

Strangely for Norbury this seems to be our quarter at the minute making a strong start and moving the ball to create great chances, they did try and utilise their defence and lock off Ian Davies early, little did they know that that only improved our game…

First to strike Craig Bennet getting in to the shape we have been playing for a few games now and moving in to space giving our attack minded midfielder the opportunity to dodge and get his arms free, first shot on target first goal.
2 for our talisman Adam Wood and a goal each for myself and Ian we take a demanding lead against a shakey looking Leeds.

2nd Quarter
Leeds 0 – 7 Norbury

A quieter quarter we enjoyed a lot of possession and created chances it was our finishing this time that let us down from about 10 chances we managed to only put 2 past the large frame of the leeds goalkeeper. A goal apiece once again for myself and Ian both coming from good team play.

Leeds now facing an uphill battle and go in to the half heads down and needing something to pick them up, as far as the defence goes for Norbury we were solid despite Scott not being available abs had his hands full with the Old fella behind goals but Leeds never really posed a threat.

3rd Quarter
Leeds 2 – 8 Norbury

A sluggish start from Norbury when we entered the game after the half almost reminiscent from the week before against Timperley. 2 quick goals after the half and Leeds had their tails up, we had spoken about the 3rd quarter being the most important for the past 2 games and I think its something we still need to learn. We looked lazy in attack we didn’t find a shape we didn’t look for the match ups and it created a lot of turnovers and gave Leeds the opportunity to go on the offensive.

Our defence was strong from the get go a couple of goals after 3 quarters gives the team a platform to win the game and that’s exactly what we did. Rhys commanding from his defence as ever and was kept busy by their only player who looked like scoring.
One goal from Craig Bennett towards the end of the quarter gave us a lift after what was a dull and boring 3rd quarter for Norbury

4th Quarter
Leeds 5 – 10 Norbury

Abs had his hands full in the final quarter with what was attackers best game assisting 2 and scoring 1 giving Leeds a glimmer of hope, but with 2 quick fire goals of our own from Craig and Woody we sat ourselves in a good position going in to the last half of the quarter.
Maybe it’s a lack of match fitness or feeling that the job is done but we have taken our foot off the pedal 2 games in a row. We reacted well to the lack of faces won and worked hard in defence to keep them to such a low score.

I rarely say that a ref has done a good job but after 4 quarters there hadn’t really been any dodgy decisions or unnecessary send offs; until the last minute anyway.

Another win in what will hopefully be a great season for us hopefully we can carry this momentum in to Boardman at the weekend.
