Norland won the Yorkshire Division 1 Grand Final against New Earswick All Blacks who were the favourites having already won the league and 40/20 cup.
Earswick scored the opening try after three consecutive sets of six winger Dean Smith diving in at the corner on ten minutes they increased the lead with a penalty to Liam Gargan.
Norland went on the attack with their first real possession getting to the line Warren Smithies diving over from acting half under the posts for Carl Pettman to add the extras. Gargan then kicked a penalty for off side to take the lead. The Sharks were getting on top and with some smart play moved the ball along the line for James Sizer to score wide out. After the break Norland increased the lead with James Sizer grabbing his second again diving in at the corner. It looked as if the Sharks were going to run away with the game Earswick having difficulty holding the larger rampant Norland pack who made the hard yards Paul Shaw barged over the referee consulted his linesman who deemed him to be held up. It made no difference from the play the ball it was moved to Ben Rowan who spotted a gap and raced through to score for Carl Pettman to goal.
Earswick had other ideas and again having three sets of six the Norland defence cracked with Sam Cooper going in and Gargan converting.
Norland were in no mood to let the game slip Carl Pettman tapping a short kick off to gather and from a quick play the ball Shane Tidswell broke away making twenty yards the ball moved sharply through the hands for Nathan Parkinson to get over Ben Rowan converted with a towering kick off the touchline.
With ten minutes left Earswick chipped over the Norland defence from the race for the ball they kicked on again the ball stopping over the line for Ben Malarkey to touch down and Gargan to goal. Again Norland attacked and Carl Pettman slotted a drop goal over the scoring wasn,t finished yet with time running out Jordan Rowan Barged over and brother Ben Rowan added the goal to win the game. Ben Rowan was awarded the Man of the Match by the Yorkshire officials.
