Own were on the back foot for a fair chunk of the first half, but then BB lost a little cohesion as they took time to settle following a swathe of changes at the start of the second.
BB's strength in the scrum was matched by Own, aided by the slippery pitch, which limited the opportunities to build any kind of shove.
A fitter Luke Passmore was welcomed back with a whole game at hooker, and the lineout was well contested by both sides.
Nil - Nil at half time reflected the difficulties, and Own took advantage as the second half progressed. BB replied swiftly to Own's first score with a try from Sean Fagan as he wrestled himself over the last few yards to the line.
BB were their own worst enemy in conceding penalties too close to their own line. Own then pushed into the lead by converting two penalties and scoring one more converted try. Although BB promised to haul themselves closer, occasional poor handling and indiscipline from the odd player failed to seal the deal.
Grounds staff are now looking for two supiciously hippo shaped objects seen sliding through the mini lakes in the 22 after the game had ended. Anyone with information should contact the South African embassy.
