All round performance

Own had another Home game this weekend welcoming Thorney to Ashton. With a various amount of changes in the forward and backs Own knew they would need to work hard and work together to come out with a win.

Own started strong and were up for the game straight from the off. From the kick off the ball came off a Thorney hand and bounced into touch within the Thorney 22. Own showed their dominance in the line out from the off, with a strong drive from the forward pack and just a few meters short of the line Wond saw the line and went for it pealing off the back of the maul he managed to muscle his little T Rex arms over and dot down for the first Try of the game. Converted Sandham 7-0.

The next Try didn't take long, Kerr kicks over the top and the line chase is good giving no option to Thorney to kick it back over the top to Kerr waiting, with a quick look up he see's space in open field and goes on the run, with a scatter defense Kerr steps 3 players and breaks down the line with one to beat in the back field with good support inside Kerr finds Cairns on the inside on a simple 2 v 1 giving a 20 meter run in under the posts. Converted Sandham 14-0.

Own started to really take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominated around the park, Thorney started to struggle against the aggressive defense of Own and started going backwards. Own gained possession of the ball and attacked hard, with big carries from Brooks, Ealing and Jones from the forwards and Eeles and Thatcher in the Backs put Own in great position. With Sandham at 9 he saw a gap in the retreating defensive line around the breakdown, with a quick snipe Sandham found open field and with just the 15 and winger to beat he started stepping, stepping both players and then stepping himself he somehow managed to find himself spinning in circles and finding another hole giving a chance to dive over the line. Converted Sandham 21-0.

A couple of minutes later the next Try came, Forwards and backs linked well and the back put the forwards in good position, Briddon stood waiting the ball from 9 and drew the defender well with a small pop to the outside saw the baby Rhino Jones charge for the line, with a 1 v 1 with the last man Jones decided to take the man with him and run him over the line to dot down. converted Sandham 28-0.

Own showed good link up play again with the next one, with the forwards and the backs carrying well a line break from Eeles gave the advantage to Own, with the centre charging down field and then getting half tackled, a great offload to Pocklington in support gave an easy run in for the flanker. Converted Sandham 35-0.

With the bonus point secured Own started to open up their game and Thorney struggled to keep up, giving away penalties gave Own real opportunity to attack different areas in the way they chose to. With a penalty coming from Thorney in their Half a quick tap from sandham fed Kerr outwide, with the backs in line waiting they took their chance hands from Kerr to Eeles to Thatcher staight down the line was enough to create a 2v1 out wide and give the chance for Tom the Woof man Woolf to dive over in the corner for his first of the day. Miss kick 40-0.

With half time approaching and Own dominating the match holes started to appear in the defensive line of Thorney, Briddon once again demanding the ball this time off Kerr and he found the gap well, with a break in the middle Briddon showed his footwork... and hurt himself. Trying to step the last man he managed to step himself and fall into the defender, but a good pop pass on the way down made it easy for the supporting Stainton to gather the ball in the air and dot down. Converted Sandham 47-0.

Half Time.

Own knew that if they wanted to keep a foothold on the game they would need to start strong again this half, and it didn't take long for the try to come, Thorney kicked long with the wind into the Mens own half, Kerr was waiting and went on another run stepping through 5 Thorney players created a lot of open space and a miss match outwide, Kerr opted to pass again and fed The Woof man wide who stepped back inside round the covering defender and jumped over the line for his second. Miss Kick 52-0.

Own once again kept dominance upfront and Thorney struggled to cope, a penalty again from Thorney gave the chance for another quick tap, this time the forwards showed their hands and gave space for Briddon to get through the line and dive over the whitewash before he hurt himself this time. Miss kick 57-0.

With all 5 subs on Own pushed forward and kept driving on. Thorney tried to use the wind again and kick deep but Barrie was waiting he fed Kerr in field, with space over the top Kerr kicked a head and chased on, Gathering his own ball on the run it was a race to the line and he beat the defender to get to the corner. Miss kick 62-0.

Own received another penalty this time opting to kick for the corner, a dominant maul put Own in good position on the field , a very well worked and timed backs move gave space to Gut Ray out wide to sprint away and beat the covering defender to the line sliding over in the corner. Missed Kick 67-0.

The final Try of the game came from Thatcher. A strong and dominant scrum in the middle of the park gave good platform and field position for the backs again to run a move, Thatcher cut back against the grain off of Kerr in the middle and Thatcher some how managed to dance and squeeze himself through the gap and sprint over the line to dot down. Converted Toby 74-0.

With Thorney struggling with injuries the decision was made to call the game full time 12 minutes before the end.
We would like to Thank Thorney for making the journey over to us by far the best bunch of lads we have played this season and the most respectful after the match as well. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Own continue the League campaign next week away at Wellingborough OG's with kick off at 3pm.

Oh yeah Ealo made a line break and dropped the ball because he got scared... told you I wouldn't forget.
