On Wednesday, Club President Keith Shurville completed his March the Month fundraising challenge, walking 11,000 steps every day during the month of March to raise awareness and funds for Prostate cancer: this totalled 425,000 steps, 250 miles - excellent work Shurv!
Here's a reminder of his story ...
SHURV’S MARCH CHALLENGE
I am sure you will all know of a man that has contracted Prostate Cancer. If not then you have now as I was diagnosed in 2018. Following fantastic treatment at Northampton General Hospital I have hopefully recovered and can get on with life.
There are many men not quite as fortunate as me as I was diagnosed early after requesting a PSA test at my doctors. Having read the great rugby player Andy Ripley’s book [Ripley’s World] a number of years ago I recognised some of the symptoms. Andy unfortunately was not quite so lucky and eventually died of Prostate Cancer. I found his great resolve and courage to do what he could whilst still alive inspirational.
I strongly advise that all men look up the symptoms and if in doubt please get a PSA blood test as soon as possible.
Research into this common disease continues but more funding is required so, alongside others, I am taking up the MARCH THE MONTH challenge.
This March, I am walking 11,000 steps a day representing the more than 11,000 dads, partners, grandads, sons, brothers, uncles and mates who die from prostate Cancer every year.
This will be a task that hopefully many men are looking to complete and I hope that you can share with me by donating to my Just Giving page.
