Midlands Intermediate Cup Final

Midlands Intermediate Cup Final

This was a long afternoon for Scouts as they spent most of it on the back foot in defence.

Continual pressure from the kick off resulted in a scrum to the home side which resulted in a try from a well rehearsed move.

The try was converted and roared on by over a thousand spectators Bridgnorth continued to batter the Scouts line. The second try came after seventeen minutes when Scouts defence was breeched and again the conversion sailed over.

Scouts did get the opportunity to drive themselves into their opponents half and went through several phases before they turned the ball over close to the line.

A yellow card for a deliberate knock on resulted in three points and with a man advantage Bridgnorth scored their third try of the afternoon to go into the break with a commanding 22 point lead.

Adam Frost pulled a penalty back for Scouts soon after the break but relentless pressure saw the hosts grab another converted try.

Although the result by this time was not in doubt Scouts continued to battle hard and their defence was commendable against a continuous attack which was failing to make any errors. A penalty on the hour increased the score to 30 -3 and Bridgnorth scored a try when they pounced on a loose ball when Scouts had looked like clearing the danger.

Two yellow cards in the final quarter did not help Scouts but they still gave it their all and only conceded one further try from a lineout catch and drive.

Having lost in the final last season and subsequently missing out on promotion Bridgnorth have set their stall out to go further. This was by far the best all round side Scouts have faced for a number of years and defeat was no disgrace. The players should be proud of what they have achieved having never even reached the semi-final of this competition in previous seasons.
