This was a hastily re-arranged friendly after both sides opponents had dropped out. Both clubs were looking for a tough encounter prior to the commencement of league action next week and even though they are in the same league this season the first fixture between the teams for a number of years was expected to be a tough one.
Some spectators were just spilling out of the bar to be greeted by the sight of D’s kicker slotting a conversion to simple try. This was followed soon after by another try for the visitors when Scouts full back Antony Morrison’s clearance kick was charged down.
Twelve points down in less than ten minutes was not what Scouts had planned but they soon got their act together and stemmed the tide with some good defensive work and began to make inroads into the visitors half with some good driving play to release their backs. The D’s defence was creaking and several penalties were going in Scouts favour and this resulted in a try for skipper Dan Warren after he followed up a sniping break from a tap penalty by scrum half Matt Brown.
James Nimmo converted and Scouts went into the break 12 – 7 in arrears.
Although Scouts did most of the attacking in the second half they failed to capitalise on their efforts. Dunstablians scored a breakaway try to extend their lead and all Scouts could reply with was a penalty from teenage fly half Sam French. The game eventually petered out as both sides tired and Scouts will now be hoping to pick themselves up for an expected tough league game away at Lutterworth.
