Scouts unfazed

Scouts travelled up the M1 to meet a Forrest team who were on a run of good results. On arrival the home side decided they wouldn’t be playing on the first team pitch but on the narrower second team pitch to restrict any width and make the game a real arm wrestling match. Scouts rose to this challenge by driving the home side back through two catch and drives which ended both times with the home team been penalised. From a lineout in the opposition 22 Alex Mckie broke through the heart of the defence to score under the posts. Frost Converted. With space on the pitch being limited at best the scouts handling was spot on as an attack down the blind side saw Ian Simmons cross the line. Forrest came back with a score of their own in the far corner to make the scores 12-5 with the conversion missed. Scouts came straight back with a Frost penalty. More power full carries saw the home team put under huge pressure which lead to a 5m scrum which was scored my Jordon Dolman. Frost converted 22-5. With a minute left in the half Scouts were down to 14 men due to not retreating 10 from a penalty in their own 22. Knowing the scrum was the key to Forests game the home team took the scrum option on scouts 5m line. Scouts took the risk by dropping a back into the pack and it paid off. Scouts drove the Forrest scrum off the ball and cleared their lines for half time. Half time score 22-5.

Now with the slope and the wind at their back scouts came out with an even higher tempo and greater physicality leaving the home team blown away within the first ten minutes of the half. First a break from Dan Warren saw a simple 2v1 with the full back put away with Russell Lynch dotting down. Frost converted 29-5. Next came the moment of the game and more than likely try of the season. From the kick off a strong carry saw a line break and great offload to Emilio who again used his pace to create space for Simmons to release Tom Powell down the right side line. With space running out the ball came back inside and found Dan Warren in midfield who threw an excellent wide ball to James Nimmo to score out wide in the left corner. Frost converted 36-5. Scouts where now back to 15 but you wouldn’t have realised they were a man down in this period. Alex Mckie got back on the score sheet with another snaking run through the defence. Frost converted 43-5. Play went from right to left and back again finding Simmons in space to glide through a gap to get his second. Conversation missed 48-5. Scouts crossed again for a converted try leaving the final score at 55-5. This was a solid all round performance on a pitch that potentially could have left the match as a snooze fest.
