Maximum in difficult conditions

Scouts welcomed bottom side Old Laurentians to Rushmere Road for the first league encounter between these two clubs who had enjoyed many friendly battles before the introduction of league rugby.
The weather was the winner in the first half with the wind and rain in the visitors favour. OL’s spurned a couple of penalty chances early on but eventually decided to kick successfully at goal in the thirtieth minute.
The elements had forced Scouts to spend a lot of time in their own half and use their forwards to drive them up the field. However, when they did make inroads into OL’s half it was not difficult for the visitors to clear the ball.
Adam Frost converted a penalty a minute prior to the break to leave the scores level.
With the floodlights on for the second half Scouts were intent on full out attack. A second Frost penalty early in the half put them ahead and the lead was soon increased when winger George Barrett stormed over for an unconverted try.
Scouts full back Sam French followed up his own kick and in trying to catch the ball it ricocheted off his head and the resulting second phase allowed Frost to put Jordan Dolman over.
Scouts continued to attack and it was no surprise when Frost slipped a short pass to Luke Reeves to run in unopposed. Frost added the extras.
With time running out the home side were desperately searching for the try bonus point. Following up a long kick down field OL’s were forced to put the ball into touch and from the resulting line out Scouts forwards set up a driving maul which resulted in them crossing the whitewash.
A good effort in difficult conditions against a side struggling to get out of bottom place ended up with Scouts moving up to seventh, which is their highest ever league placing.
