Valiant effort by Scouts

Scouts were prepared for a tough encounter against high flying Derby and they competed until the final whistle.
The wind and rain favoured the home side in the first half but Derby scored first with a well struck penalty. Adam Frost replied for Scouts mid-way through the half but the visitors struck back following a dubious penalty decision.
A clean break by centre Paddy Connolly looked promising for Scouts until he failed to get past the Derby full back but two late penalties from Frost put the hosts ahead 9-6 at the break.
Another questionable penalty early in the second half brought the scores level and Derby eventually went ahead with a pushover try which remained unconverted.
The wind and rain was strongly in favour of the visitors although Scouts resolute defence continued to keep them out. Eventually, after 26 minutes of the half, Scouts crossed the half way line for the first time in the half. Strong running by Jordan Dolman failed to get him over in the corner and Alex McKie was edged out on the other side soon after.
Scouts magnificent defence continued to battle hard and they looked like at least getting a losing bonus point until a late converted try from Derby sealed the away victory.
