Melton’s large pack were rampant early on and from a charging run their prop crashed through to score after five minutes. The try was converted but soon after Adam Frost pulled a penalty back for Scouts.
Further driving from the home forwards resulted in an unconverted pushover try but Scouts were not giving up and were unfortunate to be twice turned over at lineouts close to Meltons line which both resulted in breakaways for unconverted tries.
Facing up the hill in the second half looked a daunting task with several Scouts players having to receive treatment but they resolutely stuck to their tasks. Players were having to swap positions to allow for injuries and to a man they tackled relentlessly to keep Melton at bay. Scouts did score the first points of the half when Rob Patterson made a clean break down the left wing from inside his own half and when he realised he would be caught by covering defenders he passed inside and then looped round to gather and score himself in the corner.
The visitors defence continued to deny Melton until almost the end when the hosts scored another try from a crash ball.
With so many injuries Scouts are happy that they will not be in action again until two weeks’ time.
