The conditions under the lights were greasy and it proved difficult for both sets of players to control the slippery ball.
Scouts had the first opportunity to trouble the scoreboard and an early penalty attempt sailed wide but with ten minutes on the clock an Adam Frost penalty put the visitors into the lead.
Wellingborough pressed hard and repeated the scenario with a penalty following an earlier miss.
The hosts took the lead with a unconverted try following an outside break and Scouts thought they had equalised following a neat chip from Frost which was almost gathered for a score.
A couple of injuries forced Scouts to re-arrange after the break and an early Frost penalty put them back in the match.
‘Boro’ took their chance soon after when they chased a long kick up the left wing that bounced several times in their favour and was eventually touched down for a converted try.
Scouts began to test the home defence as the game wore on and were rewarded with a Matt Brown try to bring them within a score. This encouraged Scouts and they were pressing hard to gain the win but their final drive was stopped inches from the line with the last play.
