In a hard fought battle The Super Seconds record their 1st win of the season with only 14 men for most of the game

On a mild Saturday afternoon the Super Seconds travelled west to Daventry for a friendly encounter with the hosts 2nd team. The Scouts travelled light with a squad of only 15.

Winning the toss Scouts elected to kick off and after some early pressure were awarded an early penalty with the kick just drifting wide. The home team then had a chance to counter and were soon awarded a penalty of their own which they converted taking a 3 0 lead. Scouts were soon down to 14 for the first time in the game when veteran Bob Foster was yellow carded for a high tackle. Bob's son Alex made up for his fathers sins by scoring the visitors opening try while his dad was in the bin, the conversion was good and the Super Seconds now had a 3 7 lead.

The home team however took advantage of the extra man and soon scored a seven pointer of their own. Scouts were soon restored to 15 and scored again through Bobby Bland who was playing at 9, This time the conversion missed and as the half time whistle blew Scout held a narrow 10 12 lead. Just before the whistle blew Ross Vernel who had been nursing a shoulder injury for much of the half was forced off and the home team where unwilling to lend Scouts a player for the second half and so the visitors where faced with playing the second 40 with only 14.

Daventry kicked off the half kicking the ball straight down the throat of Alex Foster at full back and Alex ran the width then the length of the pitch to score under the posts with the conversion going over. This scenario almost played out identically from the restart this time with Alex having some interplay with his fellow backs before receiving the ball back to get his third and again the conversion was good..Scouts now held a 10 26 lead.

The home team were stung back into action and the 14 man Scouts team were forced to defend hard however the number advantage meant that gaps were created and the home team scored twice more converting one. With the scores now 22 26

The 14 man Super Seconds showed immense heart to keep the opposition out defending their line for the last 10 minutes of the game. When the final whistle blew there was no disguising the delight of winning on Skipper Neill Friedman's face. A strong determined effort by the full squad.
