vs Eccles (Friendly)

Won 22-21 (T: Rhys (2), Adam, Petru; C: Sam)

Following the trials and tribulations of a very hard league campaign, it was good for the boys to get a hard earned victory against a touring side from Eccles. As the score suggests, this was an evenly contested match between two well-matched sides – although it didn’t seem like that at first when the visitors stormed into an early 14-0 lead with 2 converted tries.

Scouts, though hit back impressively when Rhys scored two tries of his own in quick succession. His power and strength proved too much for the opposition to handle as he tore through their defence. With Sam converting 1, this brought the score back to 14-12 at half-time.

Scouts quickly took the lead following the re-start when Adam seized on a loose ball and sprinted unopposed to dot down. Scouts thought they had increased their lead, but Jack was adjudged to have put a foot in touch when flying down the wing. However, the reprieve for the touring side was temporary as shortly afterwards, Petru scored following a strong run from Kian from a quickly taken penalty.

Both sides had been warned for repeated high tackles and with the game finely poised, tempers became frayed with both sides losing a man to the sin-bin. Eccles responded the better and scored another converted try to bring the score to within a point. However, there was no time for the restart and Scouts celebrated a welcome victory.

After the difficult season that the boys had endured, this was testimony to their continued effort and enthusiasm.

Players of the match were Jake Ponting and Adam (forwards) and Rhys and Mauro (backs).
