Another Victory For U14s

Won 15-5 (T: Tom, Taylor, Petru)

Scouts continued their good “post-league” form with a thoroughly deserved victory over a touring Saffron Walden side who always posed a threat and looked dangerous throughout the match. This was a much better performance than that against St Neots against much better opposition with the forwards and backs combining well and Petru showing good distribution at fly-half.

Scouts started the stronger of the two sides and enjoyed the majority of the territory and possession with strong runs from Tom & Rhys testing the visitor’s defence early on. Kian almost opened the scoring, but was held up over the line. However, from the ensuing scrum, Tom picked up from the base of the scrum and powered his way over.
Saffron Walden hit back immediately and it was their turn to test the Scouts defence. However, the tackling had much more purpose than in some other matches this season. This was typified by Taylor who put in a couple of huge tackles to help repel the danger and enable Scouts to turn around with a slender lead.

The visitors started the second half as they finished the first – on the attack. Scouts defence was finally breached when the outside centre finished off a good flowing move to bring the scores level. Scouts now knew that they were in a contest and responded in style. The Scouts scrum, normally a strong point of their game had been unusually quiet, but now began to stir into life. This lead to Scouts 2nd try when Callum picked up from the base of the scrum. He was driven on by the pack and Taylor forced his way over the line.
Scouts were now once again in charge with the visitors appearing to tire (they were on tour after all!) and the match was put out of their reach when Petru jinked his way through to round off a good win.
