Won 17-0 (T: Tom (2), Jacob T. ; C: Caleb)
For their first game of 2018, the U16s welcomed the players, coaches and supporters of Marlow RFC.
On a filthy, February morning both sides tried to play open, running rugby. Inevitably the conditions and wet ball lead to a number of handling errors. However, this also resulted in an exciting game.
Scouts started strongly and their early pressure paid off when following a catch and drive from an attacking line-out, Jacob Tansley forced his way over to open the scoring. Scouts increased their lead when Tom caught the defenders napping and broke out close to half-way. Once he built up a head of steam, he proved unstoppable and powered his way over. Caleb kicked a superb conversion to give Scouts a 12-0 half-time lead.
With the conditions getting worse, the second half was more attritional with Scouts defending valiantly for long periods. However, when they got in their opponent’s territory they made it count. A jinking run by Caleb lead to Tom scoring his 2nd try of the game, this time from close range.
A good win against spirited opposition. Not sure who won the “topless mudslide” at the end though!!!
