Under 12s 2014 Tour Barkers Butts RFC 30th March 2014

Then back at the hotel the realisation that the clocks were going on an hour kicked in.

However the squad arrived to face a 4 quarter game in good spirits and in the first quarter clearly Luke J showed he had had a large breakfast as he was on fire – tackling well running with ball in hand and kicking well. The spectators did take a double take when we thought that one of the parents was playing for Barkers Butts – he was a big “lad”. Barkers got a couple of tries in but we came back with a try from Charlie H and another from Ollie R. So all square.

Second quarter saw strong scrummaging – we have a powerful pack now – capable of matching any team. The forwards are growing up and with likes of Sam D Callum OL Ryan G Jacob B and James H we were getting through tackles and making our play in the Barkers half with possession. Charlie A showing how to tackle – again and again – and with such modesty. Charlie H punched over the line for a try but Barkers caught us out on the wing and put over 3 tries.

Half Time 5 – 3 to BBs.

We were still playing well in the third quarter which saw Max in the line out hassling his opposite number making them lose possession. Good tackling from Joe F and Jacob B saw North retain the ball enabling Charlie H to do his usual and get down the blindside and over for a try. The 2 wingers from Barkers were very quick and saw gaps and went over for 2 tries. But we came back and with Michael G getting the ball out and down the line we saw Charlie H force his way over for another try. This is getting expensive!! 7- 5 to BBs
Final quarter and this is when the late night kicked in for North. We saw more tackling from many players especially from Sid P and Jacob B along with a try saver from Chris D. Now I am told that Callum OL with his strong drive got over for a try – which I didn’t see but some of the team did – so well done Callum. Barkers were finding our gaps and we were tired and when the final whistle blew the score was

The whole squad played really well and as Reg said “you should be very proud of yourselves” The Barkers coach also praised the squad and their play.
Barkers Butts are a strong side and have a good pedigree – Neil Back and Danny Grewcock having started playing there when they were under 12.
A nice touch from the Barkers players was to come over with chocolates for the North Bristol Mums.
As all players had played so well there was no man of the match award but the tackler trophy was awarded jointly to Jacob B and Sid P. Congratulations to you both. Your Dads were very proud.
