A first for the squad – a trial match on a full size pitch and 15 a side.

Avonmouth couldn’t provide a full team of 15 so Max P Dylan S Tom A and Charlie R kindly offered to play for them and donned their black top. The game consisted of 4 10 minute quarters refereed very efficiently by Ian Kellaway.

The first quarter showed Avonmouth’s desire to push us hard but we held our ground well only letting in 1 try down the wing. It was a long run across the pitch! Tackling was good overall but some tackles were not held allowing certain large Avonmouth players to slip through.

Q1 - North Bristol 0 Avonmouth 5

The second quarter showed better defence with Cameron S making strong runs through the Avonmouth defence. Our scrums were excellent – powerful and pushing the Avonmouth scrum back on most occasions. This was the first 8 man scrum we have fielded and the influence of Tony’s coaching showed. We didn’t score but neither did Avonmouth.

Q2 - North Bristol 0 Avonmouth 5

More strong tackling and breaks from Callum OL. Ollie R feeding the ball back quickly to Charlie S enabling him to read the situation well with some good feeds to the backs or kicking into space and chasing hard – not always with the support he needed. Avonmouth sneaked a try down a wing again and they converted.

Q3 - North Bristol 0 Avonmouth 12

Last quarter showed real effort to get across the Avonmouth try line – Charlie H almost got there but his foot just touched the side line – well spotted by Reg. Liam C showed he isn’t frightened by large opposition – and there were a few- putting in low tackles bring the players down.

Final score North Bristol 0 Avonmouth 12

A great performance from all the team – we have a very strong back row – ready for any opposition. Don’t forget team to keep hold of the ball – we did lose possession rather too frequently.

Man of the match Charlie S – Great game Charlie.
