U13s lose away to Chew Valley
By Steve Wyres
North work very hard but come away with defeat.
A long trip to Chew Valley on a bitterly cold sunny day, the boys worked very hard but ultimately came up short against a very strong Chew side.
The game got off to a very poor start as we missed a few tackles allowing Chew to open the scoring. We started to get more into the game with some fantastic tackles by Fletcher with Archie and Will making strong drives to help us start getting a grip on the game. After a few phases Will made another good drive offloading to Morgan who sprinted through the defence to level the score.
We started to push back towards their try line and from a scrum, Ellis offloaded to Fletcher who drove over the line to score our 2nd. Soon after, and despite Morgan almost catching the runner they equalized. James made an excellent tackle on the wing and Ted stopped an almost certain try, but soon after Chew again took the lead. The quarter finished with Bobby making a thunderous tackle on the wing.
We dipped in the 2nd quarter, lots of missed tackles allowing Chew to score 4 tries. As the quarter went on the boys started to make more tackles, with Ollie, Bobby, Gene and Fletcher all making many tackles each. Unfortunately Max was forced off with an injury.
Our levels were restored in the 3rd quarter with all the boys working really hard again. Ted and Archie both made some excellent runs and Ted who was excellent all day made some great tackles. Louie kept driving at the Chew defence and his back hand precise offloads were great to watch.
George P did brilliantly to rip the ball from Chew, but we were again hit on the counter attack to make the score 2-8. Louie almost got through to score but was unfortunately declared to be held up on the line. However from the resulting scrum, George P fed the ball to Bobby who scored our 3rd.
We started the final quarter really well, Louie made a strong drive and Archie was able to finish off the move to make the score 4-8. We played really well this half but Chew kept hitting us on the counter attack and tackles from Ollie and Tom kept the score down. Chew scored 2 more before Fletcher was able to score from close range after some fabulous work by Cobey. Chew scored the final try to make the final score 5-11.
A tough day but there was a lot of hard work by all of the boys. The scrum today was brilliant winning most of the scrums and Cobey playing at scrum half had an excellent game.
Tries - Morgan, Fletcher(2), Bobby, Archie
