North Bristol score more tries but just lose the game

Clevedon were the visitors on a gorgeous sunny September morning. Unforunately, they only had 13 players so we lent them 2 players (soon to be 3 due to injury) per quarter to help them play 15 a side, This turned out to be a very close game with both sides putting in maximum effort right until the end.

1st quarter (Ben B, Devan playing for Clevedon)

Within a minute of starting the game Clevedon started well, getting past our defence and opening the scoring. However we followed this with a good Louie drive allowing Bobby to get free and almost score, just being held up short of the line. Ellis managed to pick the ball up at the back of the scrum and drive hard and after a few phases, Ted burst though a couple of tackles before offloading to Tom who ran over the line to open our scoring.

This turned into a bit of a messy performance from both sides with both team struggling to keep the ball causing quite a few knock ons and turnovers. Just before the end of the quarter, Clevedon intercepted a pass to again run in under the posts scoring, again managing a conversion.

2nd Quarter - (Ted, George V and Archie playing for Clevedon)

We were able to score quickly at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, with Ellis again making great work in driving through the defence, getting the ball to Bobby who produced a brilliant back handed pass out to Morgan who ran into the corner. Diego was fabulous today and unstoppable with many drives at the Clevedon defence, making valuable ground. We almost got down the wing a couple of times with Gene using his strength and power but their defence were strong and were able to stop him. Tom scored again after some great combination work from George P and Bobby. Soon after Morgan scored another try after a wonderful one-two with Bobby and Fletcher driving hard at the defence.

Half time - NB 20 - Clevedon 20

3rd Quarter - (Zachary, Diego and Chris playing for Clevedon)

Clevedon started well in the 3rd quarter and almost broke free, however Fletcher was able to stop them breaking through, with Morgan tackling and rucking brilliantly to stop them once more. Unfortunately Zachary (playing for the opposition) broke through using his quick speed to score for the opposition.

A scrambled defence stopped them scoring again, but they had us pegged back on our try line many times and every bit of effort was shown by our lads to successfully keep Clevedon out. Thankfully a few big kicks allowed us to ease the pressure a bit with Joel and Leon doing really well in the tackles and rucks, but Clevedon were able to score once more just before the end of the quarter.

4th quarter - (George P, Gene, Cobey playing for Clevedon)

The final quarter was mainly played in our half. Tom stopped them from scoring with a great tackle in the corner. George V moving the ball well at scrum half and Ben B at fly-half trying to get the ball moving and many times were able to get to the wings but their defence were very hard to break down. Bobby managed to break through and run half the pitch to reduce the gap to 3 points. Unfortunately we were unable to score again.

Final score - NB 25 Clevedon 28

Great effort from the boys and many thanks to all who helped out Clevedon today. We scored more tries but could not convert these (although the kicks were close).

Ellis took a knock today, so hope he is ok after he put in a very good performance.

Tries - Tom(2), Morgan(2), Bobby
