Valiant effort against a very strong side,

After Friday night's entertaining win under the lights, we had a cup match against St Brendans on a very wet early Sunday morning.

Injuries to Archie and Curtis in Friday's game meant we were short of numbers in the forward line. Thanks both (and Jack) for turning up to support the team.

The game started with a few handling errors due to the poor weather and St Brendans were putting us under a massive amount of pressure in the breakdown. Fletcher put in some good hard tackles early, and Chris continued with his strong tackling from Friday by stopping them getting down the wing a few times.

St Brendans scored the first try after some ball handling error and a battle to touch the ball first. Our rucking started to really improve by now, Evan, Louie and Ellis were starting to get over the ball a lot quicker, defending it really well.

We started to get a bit more control of the ball by this time, Tom produced some good long kicks which caused problems for their defence allowing us to gain ground and We seemed to have good position to score, but their strong rucking allowed them to pinch the ball. Bobby managed to stop the counter attack with a very strong tackle. Diego and Evan kept tackling hard before the break but St Brendans produced a very good move enabling them to score in the corner to make it 0-10 at half time.

The second half did not start well with Max taking a heavy hit and having to go off injured. Chris put in another accurate tackle to stop a certain try, but despite this they managed to score their 3rd. Fletcher had to go off injured with a bang to the back of the neck after putting in many more tackles.

All the forwards played really well, Ellis made some great yardage, with Diego, Evan and Will supporting brilliantly. We managed to put them under real pressure from a scrum in the corner resulting in a maul enabling Leon to almost get able to get over, but the St Brendands defence were strong and kept us out before clearing. Leon produced a fantastic counter ruck before passing the ball down the line out to George P, Devan, Ollie and finally Morgan who sprinted through to score in the corner.

Every player put in a great effort today, especially the forwards who did not get much rest; getting better as the game went on. Lots of bruises and injuries but the boys should to be proud how they played against an extremely well drilled team.

Final score NB 5- 15 SB
Try - Morgan
