1. Hykeham Rugby kit donation to Ghana RFU

Schools and junior clubs in Ghana receive their first ever rugby kit, donated by North Hykeham RFC. November 2011

In late November 1st XV captain Andy Rush visited the West African country of Ghana on a education and sport development programme called 'International Inspiration'.

Most of the programme was centred on the development of PE in Ghanaian schools and much of Andy's work is centred around the development of Rugby Union and also encouraging links between sports clubs in the UK and emerging sports in Ghana.

As such North Hykeham RFC kindly donated 3 junior playing kits to the Ghana RFU along with a number of balls. The kits were presented in the capital Accra to the president of the Ghana RFU, Gifty Annan-Myers. The kits were donated to clubs and rugby playing schools who did not have any playing kit. So North Hykeham's colours are being proudly worn by young Ghanaians at Cape Coast Senior High and junior clubs Accra Warriors and Cape Coast RFC, for these players this was the first time they have worn a full playing kit, for that Hykeham Rugby should be very proud.

On behalf of the future Rugby players of Ghana, I would like to thank North Hykeham Rugby Club for their kind donation and their proud Spirit of Rugby" - President of Ghana RFU.

The four Rugby balls were presented to the school where Andy was based, Swedru Senior High. They were presented to the school in a assembly of 2,500 pupils. Many of which had never seen a Rugby ball before, and the school only had 5 balls of any kind, 2 of which had been made by pupils! Andy has 3 years to develop Rugby in the school, a journey which Hykeham Rugby has proudly started, by intriguing pupils with our 'odd shaped balls'!
