Vale progressed to the third round of the centenary cup after winning on penalties for the first time against Lauriston Thistle.

Much like last week Vale started well, forcing their opponents back for the first 20 minutes and had a few chances to open the scoring. Following the trend from last week Vale went behind against the run of play with a goal on the counter attack after 26 minutes, with vale pushing forward a through ball split the defence and the striker raced through and slipped the ball under Delso.

The heads didn't go down though and Vale continued to dominate possession and got their deserved equaliser on 33 minutes. The lively Ritchie had the beating of the left back all day and forced the defender in to a reckless challenge picking up a yellow card. From the resulting free kick O'Rourke delivered an inch perfect ball over the keeper and Chris Keir rose like a salmon at the back post and headered home.

Vale had numerous chances to take the lead and out the game out of sights but it was turning in to one of those afternoons where they just couldn't find the target and when they did the keeper made some great saves.Vale did eventually take the lead in the second half. The goal was made in Spain, a quick throw out from Delso to his fellow countryman Flores, the left back drove forward withe the ball and eventually threaded a great ball through to Seywright who rounded the keeper and slotted home.

The Lauriston left back, already on his last warning, was then dismissed for yet another foul but this sparked the visitors in to life. Vale were then haunted by another awful refereeing decision against them - as Millar and the Lauriston forward chased back for a ball they both went to ground and the ball rolled through to Delso, as the keeper picked up the ball one of the opposition claimed a pass back and the referee amazingly gave it. They took it quickly with everyone in shock and scored before Vale could settle.

The game went in to extra time and Vale went back on top against the 10 men but the ref the gave a penalty against McDougall when the ball struck his arm from close range. The midfielder stepped up and sent Delso the wrong way.

Vale refused to give up and a goal was inevitable, substitute Sproule found Seywright who took his time before beating the keeper for his second of the match.

The game went in to penalties and Seywright stepped up first and tucked it away. Delso then saved the first Lauriston penalty. Flores & O'Rourke the scored with 1 reply from Lauriston before Delso saved again. Sproule had chance to win it but his effort was saved and Lauriston scored to make it 3-2. Keir was the man to take the 5th penalty and made no mistake in putting his team in the next round where they will play Premier 1 side East Linton
