5th XI

From the 5th XI Captain

Last season was another successful one, as the 5s consolidated to finish in a strong position in the league, having only been promoted the year before. Nico Smith, a hugely exciting talent, burst onto the scene and deservedly won Player of the Year. The club was also recognised by the 1987 League in winning the divisional Batting Award.

In 2019, I hope this team can achieve promotion in the Middlesex County League. We are a young side, interspersed with the necessary amount of senior, experienced players. This blend of youth and ambition, with calm and composed heads, makes the captaincy an exciting proposition once again. As ever, my intention is to uphold the ethos of the team; to play competitive cricket, yet also to ensure that everyone who represents us enjoys themselves and strives to improve.

Overseeing the development of Colts cricketers remains important. The continued success of Luke and Ethan at national level, both of whom began life in the 5s, is testimony to the pathway into senior cricket we have at this club. Last year indicated the presence of new and emerging talent, with the likes of Nico Smith, Will Frais and Louis Hayward all contributing exceptionally well, including a memorable maiden hundred for Louis. These boys will undoubtedly be playing in higher sides before too long.

Finally, I’d be delighted to welcome newcomers to the team, regardless of age or experience. It is an enjoyable and inclusive environment in which to represent a club of which I am proud to be a part. If anyone is interested, I’d be pleased to hear from you.

Up the Midd!
